How we produce, consume, and create value is changing with the shift from fossil to renewable resources. Monitoring helps to identify risks, uncover opportunities and steer the transformation in a safe and fair way.

This website brings together findings from long-term research projects on bioeconomy monitoring in Germany. It presents key themes, indicators, and methods to track developments and describes the strengths and limits of different monitoring approaches.

Further Development of the "Bioeconomy Monitoring System" with Special Consideration of Precautionary Environmental Protection

What characterizes a monitoring system that effectively considers aspects of precautionary environmental protection? The aim of the project is to develop potential monitoring approaches for the German bioeconomy strategy that ensure sustainability and the protection of natural systems are well addressed. Relevant and meaningful bioeconomy indicators will be evaluated and recommended for inclusion as a means of incorporating precautionary environmental protection in the German bioeconomy monitoring system.

MonBio ran until January 2024 and was funded by the German Environment Agency (UBA).
